w.i.p. to be

(and a peek for Angela.)

When Angela requested that we flash her a quick peek of our living rooms, I didn't play. Our living room is a disaster. Brian is starting to make progress on the hole in the wall, but it is still not quite done. The wallpaper is semi-torn off the walls. Plus all of the extras (sink, plumbing parts, tile, grout, drywall scraps) for the bathroom remodel are still stacked in there by the fireplace. You don't want to see it. Trust me.

So instead here's the sun room:

world's longest couch (before)

I posted a picture of this room a long time ago on my old site. (I took this picture last winter. Look at the snow in the yard!) This is where we do most of our living. The television is in there in the corner on the right, you can't see it from this angle, and the cabinets below the shelves on the left hold the kids' toys. The door to the back patio is on the right, and it opens and slams shut approximately every 30 seconds. This is a high traffic room.

So my w.i.p. is the couch. Purchased second-hand at a consignment shop, it is perfect for us. It's 9 feet long, super sturdy, and so comfy. We call it The World's Longest Couch. One of us can lay flat and there is still room for two more of us at the other end! The problem: the fabric is bad- 1970's garage sale bad. So I have a big project; I am going to sew a slipcover for that couch. Now's the time. I'm going to tackle it this weekend. I've had the fabric quite awhile- a heavy, washable, light khaki fabric with a nubby canvas/linen feel. How long do you suppose it will take me to finish? Wish me luck. Please.

Have a great weekend everyone. And may your projects go smoothly as well!

Eek - good luck. Large quantities of fabric scare me rigid. Your room will be transformed though - very exciting.

Very courageous to tackle a slip cover. I've only ever imagined making one. And then got scared!

having seen your previous doings, i have absolutely no doubt this will turn out well.

breathe deeply and remember - plenty of iced tea and cookies make any project go better :)

can't wait to see!

Oh my, quite a job. I sure wish I could send some leftover gumbo your way! I bet though, it's going to look great in the end.

Good luck with that, my dear! At least your sofa has straight, clean lines, so it may go easier. I've NEEDED to slipcover my loveseat for about 6 months, but the curves! I just can't bring myself to even think about it!

That couch has great lines! Good for you for seeing past the upholstery. It will look great!

I can't wait to see how it turns out. I just bought a thrift store couch too. Maybe you can give me some pointers after you're finished.

But the psychadelic 70s fabric actually looks good in there! (But I bet it's a pain to clean.)

I heart that room. You know I've always coveted that shelving unit. Sigh.

Go Alicia, go! You can do it!! It's been a while, but I've made a slip cover before. It looks like that sofa won't be so hard to tackle with all the straight lines. I can't wait to see your results. Good luck :-)

i've always wanted to tackle a slipcover, but I just not brave enough! I can't WAIT to see how yours turns out. I thought my seven foot couch was long...your takes the cake!!!

What a nice room! The couch will look beautiful when you are done. But for now, good luck!

... hey I think thats our old couch from when I was a kid...it was bad fabric back then lol.... well you know how I feel about slip covers.... LOVE THEM !!! Good luck... cant wait to see the after picture !!

That looks like a very livable room. THE SNOW!

A slipcover sounds very hard to me -- I wish you luck and godspeed.

Close enought to a living room for me! That is an awesome space...so sunny! I like your funky coffee table too!
Hope the recovering goes (went?) well. ;-)
