good boy, good photographer
I've been trying to give J a little extra time the last few days. We're having a few issues already at school. There is a boy in his class who is having some trouble, severely acting up, getting sent off the the principal several times a day. This boy has even kicked one student in the nose and spit all over another. The last few days, J has been talking a lot about "the mean boy" and acting up a little himself in class, which is so unlike him. After much prodding, I think I may have figured out that he is a little impressed with the attention this boy gets. The wrong kind of attention.
Back to the point, I have been trying to give him some extra attention at home. He loves to take pictures, so this afternoon I gave him my camera. Here is a shot he took of me in the yard as we waited for the Blue Angels to fly over. We heard the rumbling but never actually saw them.
He took this one of his muddy bicycle wheel. Pretty nice, kid! I have submitted it to a Year of Color for him.
His photo shoot quickly deteriorated into taking about 20 shots of cars going by, but I picked out a few for a Flickr set. I think he might get a kick out of seeing them in a slideshow.
Anyone have any ideas about a inexpensive and DURABLE digicam for kids?

Wow, I found your blog through Angela's and am loving it!
My four year old is all about taking pictures lately, too. Fisher-Price makes a kid's digital camera. There are probably a lot that are cheaper, but my kids can destroy toys pretty fast so I'm hoping it's a little more durable.

The reviews I've read on the kid digital cameras have been pretty bad. We have an old digital camera that we let our daughter use. The battery compartment is now secured with tape but otherwise she's done well with it. We're trying to teach her that the camera is not a toy and that she needs to be careful with it. I think if she used one that looked like a toy that might be harder. I would look on ebay or craigslist for an older camera, you can get them fairly inexpensively.

I'm impressed! What a constructive, creative thing for him to do. That picture of the bicycle wheel is great!

oh man, eliot and i hit the jackpot yesterday with blue angels and boy was he excited! i bought a $15 digital camera for him which was a great price but the bad thing was there was no viewing screen, so the lure wore off pretty quickly. no fun to have to go download them on the computer to see your handy work.

I kept hearing the Blue Angels while I was at work yesterday. It took me a while to figure out what all that noise was!
Are you in the market for a new camera for yourself? You could get a new one and give him the old one. :) I'm always looking for excuses for camera upgrades.

Hooray - another participant in Year of Color :-) I hope he finds that negative attention isn't really what he wants, and soon. Beautiful quilt!

as for school issues - hope finding the root will help sort things out... thinking of you!

Tell that "mean boy" he better not set his sights on our little J! Morgan would come up there and show him who's boss. :) Kidding of course, but the whole mean kid thing scares me for when she goes to school...

great idea about the attention at home. really, great.
we saw the Blue Angels from the Roeland Pk Wal-mart parking lot! lots of clear sky over I-35. mine are going to the airshow tomorrow (without me - no thankyou to the noise!) and are so excited they can hardly sleep.

I like J's photos! {you look great!}. I have no idea about cheap digis but I am interested in knowing since I will need one for Fiona in the future.
