this boy

A friend made a comment the other day. She said, "That N wants to make sure nobody forgets about her!" So incredibly true. But it also made me realize there is a little boy who lives here, who scrambles to keep himself heard above her wails of "No!" and "Mine!" He has his moments, but most of the time he's such a good boy. He loves trains and rockets. He's a great age; he's old enough to be really excited about learning and life, and yet not old enough to not be excited about these things. Do you know what I mean?

We had a date together Sunday. Lunch at the counter of Steak 'n Shake, his favorite restaurant, a stroll through the pet store, and then a movie. Not such a great movie, but a great afternoon with a great boy.

Way to go mama ! Sounds like an AHA moment... and he is going to love it. One of the bloggers that I like to visit has a journal that she leaves notes for her 8 year old daughter and her daughter answers the notes... they journal back and forth and have done for years... I am going to give journals with entries to each of my teens this year... never too late i guess ! Your little guy might enjoy this too.

Oh, I so know what you mean about that great age. Mine has unfortunately passed that age. It isn't "cool" to get excited about things. I miss those days!

So sweet. I feel the same way about Big J. I find myself wanting to spend more one-on-one time with him lately. He's growing up too quickly.

oh yes, i have been waiting for a date night like that. that is one sweet sweet boy you have.

Ditto for me and my girl. Such a magical age, this kindergarten thing. But I must say that I am also looking forward to the time that my wee train-lover is a bit older and we can share time together like this.

What fun. I'm looking forward to dates with my son once he's a little older.

sounds nice.

Sometimes I find it hard balancing two kids with such different needs. A date sounds like the perfect solution. Fun!

He IS a great kid! And he has a cousin who thinks he's the bomb & can't wait to see him next week. :)

that movie made me want to stab my eyes out.

j is a great kid. love him.

A date sounds great. I have a 4 years old and we never went out together, I mean, me and him.

How sweet. Kids love (and need) that individual attention sometimes.

His eyes really look like yours in that pic!

What a lovely post. Reminds me of my own earnest boy when he was little...he's 19 now. Cherish these days.

Sweet and lovely. I love special days like that. Looking forward to one with my darling girl on Sunday.
