home bound

I think I've got a bad-day hangover. Yesterday, a little someone got sent to the Principal's office. His offense was minor but he'd been repeatedly warned. Then an out-of-control afternoon followed, leading to the loss of books at bedtime AND four days of his rationed "computer privileges." Oh, boy. It's all made me really want to hold him tight and keep him snuggly close today.

The weather is suddenly getting wintry, and we're packing it in for a long weekend. Chili is simmering, cornbread will soon be baking, tasty adult beverages are at hand. There's bacon and whole wheat pancake mix and coffee to be ground for the morning. Sunday, some lovely ladies will be coming over for a visit and I'm planning to make this cake. And what do you know? An extra day off Monday. (I think I can cram a little studio time in there too!)

It's all just the cure I need.

Wonderful weekends to you all.

p.s. This is De-Lurking Week. So go ahead. Say hello. Ok?

it cracked me up that you chose my url to be the "ladies." seriously, alicia, are you thinkin' straight? :-)

and, hey! that lemon cake recipe is DANGEROUSLY close to my orange cake recipe (that i also make lemon version when the mood strikes).

That reminds me of Alexander and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. Poor guy, I hope today has been better.
I'm so envious of your Sunday visit. I'm sure it will be lots of fun!
Enjoy that chili and corn bread. We are on the same wavelength today. My chili is simmering too. The corn bread is in the form of mini muffins.

isn't it so funny that there seem to be geographical pockets of bloggers? portland (OR and ME) KS/MO,.... wish i was in one of them! :(

Have a great weekend all of you!

Guilty lurker, saying hi! Have a great weekend - lovely looking cake :)

all three of mine have paid a visit to the principals office...kind of a rite of passage !
School behavior was always a little wild just before weather changes. Have a great time on Sunday !! I have made that lemon cake... its yummm

Give that Jack a big hug for me!

And have FUN with those lovely ladies! We should have a PDX + KC get-together sometime. =)

Poor J. It's tough to be a boy sometimes. (Not that I would know firsthand, of course, just being the mother of so many boys.) My oldest was sent to the director's office when he was in preschool. He was in serious trouble with me (not so much at school). So far, no one else has had those problems. Although, Carter did lose recess for misbehaving recently.

I hope you all have a lovely time at your gathering. Take pictures.

Ooh, sorry about the bad day. Well, he has a nice long weekend to take a break from that school business.

I'm looking forward to Sunday -- I hope this weather doesn't ruin it. I want a piece of that lemon cake!

sounds like a lovely weekend. enjoy!

Sounds yummy all around. I hope J is appropriately penitent but not overly affected by the whole thing. Enjoy the long weekend.

o sorry little man. these gray days don't help. he is so very sweet.

can't wait for cake! so should i be bringing sweets???

Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear about your little guy.
I must say that I am quite envious of your day on Sunday! What FUN!! You'll have to fill us in on all the details.

Oh dear! The Principal's office! Ah well...next week is a new week.

This weather is something, isn't it? We are having big troubles with the power here, hope you are all warm and cozy over there!

When I was teaching we always swore by the fact that kids were human barometers. The weather changes and kids go crazy. Hope that was it for your little man!

Wow! How can so many wonderful bloggers all live in the same place?!
I totally know what you mean about the bad day hangover. We've had a couple of tough days with Elle, which led to a bad mama moment yesterday of threatening to do something that I NEVER do and never intend to do.
I totally love those snuggly cozy winter days with chili and cornbread and yummy adult drinks and everything lovely and warm. enjoy it! (ps: I think I am the only person I know who likes being snowed-in, which we have been several times lately. But what better excuse to just stay home and *be* with our lovely wee ones and sweeties?)

must be winter cabin-fever or something. we cancelled plans to go away for the weekend because of bad behavior. the offender had been warned, and then we had to stick to our guns, you know?
so sorry your party was postponed. wish i was closer. sounds so fun.
