winter garden
Waiting this afternoon for J to finish his Spanish class at school, N and I explored his school's garden.
At first glance it seemed not much was going on, but as we walked around we saw and heard otherwise. We enjoyed looking up at the winter blue sky, feeling the wind in our hair, watching two mice dart in and out of the ivy, examining the compost, squishing in the mud, looking at the goldfish in the pond, and listening to the chattering birds.
There really is no greater teacher than nature, and there's little as amazing as planting a seed and watching it grow. I'm looking forward to J becoming a part of this school garden and for them both to help with the little vegetable patch we're planning here at home. Not long now.

Lovely. We are also eagerly anticipating the arrival of spring and getting our hands really, really dirty.

There's nothing like a bit of dirt on your hands. :)

We're excited about spring too. William is really impatient for the caterpillars to start appearing. (The boxelder bugs that keep coming into our house are just not as exciting.)

Very cool! My mom is a teacher, and she has a school garden very much like yours. If you'd like to check out her blog, its http://ellensblog1.blogspot.com
She just started it, but she'll have more pics up soon of her science garden, I'm sure.
