happy smocket

What in the heck is it?

smocket1.JPG

It's a smocket.

smock + pocket = smocket.

Amy kindly traced her vintage child's apron and mailed the pattern to me. I used the surprise fabric she sent for the patchwork pocket. It's a happythings smocket. Thank you, Amy! It makes me very happy.

**the pattern can now be found at my main page in the sidebar! Have fun!**

Yea!! It's awesome. And I love the name...

Oh, and also? LOVE your babe's haircut. How sweet is she?!

We've been feeling smock-y here too. The cross back, the ties. This is just adorable. I love it in the heavier weight fabric (heavier than Amy's) and the pocket.

oh that is great. hey how can i bribe you into tracing the pattern for me?:)

you did a wonderful job on that smock.

The smocket is wonderful, but I have to say, the model sort of outshines all your hard work! Though, she's your hard work too, so I guess it's ok!

It looks really good! I like it a lot. She's quite cute too. :) I wanted to try out that pattern too... although I know my gal would NOT let me put it on her....the criss-cross back would have her going batty. Maybe I could make it for someone else's child. ?
Great work as always Alicia.

So sweet! The fabrics are great, love the patchwork pocket, and yes...your model is divine! Great work!

oh, oh! awesome!! What a sweet little smocket and what a sweet little girl wearing it.

love it alicia! (echo christina - would love a copy of the pattern...) xo

me thinks *i* need a smocket!

I saw that on Amy's blog awhile back! I love your smocket with a pocket.

I can't stand the cuteness here! I too would love a copy of this pattern if you're sharing.

ack! too cute!

gorgeous. that is seriously perfect. any way to make the pattern a pdf or something?

How do I love your smocket? Let me count the ways...

I love these little smockets! I have a few patterns for them that I have yet to make.

Absolutely darling.
Did you make a wocket for her smocket pocket? (hee, hee sorry couldn't resist:)

Love the smocket. I need one. =)

That is one cute smocket! (and model, of course) I tried drawing one of these patterns a while back, and Chris came in and asked me why I was drawing bats.

OMG, I make those all the time! I mean, the EXACT apron!!! (Well, I do sew the shoulders together so it slips over the head, so I guess not exactly the same ...)

I love them!!!

You are very welcome. It makes me happy too -- seeing the super cute results and just knowing that somewhere out there (on a not too distant street) someone is crafting!

Oh, I feel a craze coming on.... Just beautiful.

it is super beautiful!!!!! i want to make one for my little one now.

Adorable! I love how her red shoes match the red of the Pocket on her Smocket! Can you say that fast!

God, I wish I had a girl!!!! That is so cute. The red shoes top it off too.

very clever & your gal's got a smart little haircut too. :)

eek! that is great - really cute!

that is so flippin' cute!!!!!!!

omg... how cute is she ??? Just barely 2 and look at that modeling pose... and the smocket is cute too.

Oh my heavens!!! I love it! And look at her hair...so sweet.

Ooooo...It's adorable! I'm sure it would make me very happy, too, in an adult size--of course! Not sure my little guy would be so appreciative! :)

Very cute!

Oops, accidently left my old blog address on the last comment!

Oh, how adorable! Cute, cute. I love the pocket fabric and cut of the back...

Fantastic. A very happy thing indeed.

I am with all the ladies! That is so cute!!!!!! (Look at all those exclamations. That's serious business.) It looks so simple I could actually do it. Share, please!!!

Okay, I've been thinking about it all day. Is there any way you can think of to share the pattern? If there's no digital way could I send a little something for you and a stamped, self-addressed envelope? If not (and I totally get the time-factor-- no worries) I'm going to recreate it. I LOVE it.

How cute does she look in that fab smocket - I want one for me now!

What a clever idea! I'm going to have to try making something like that for my kids!

OK, that's damn cute...

I love this but am not sure if I can get the pattern? is it on this site somewhere? thanks Tracy

Carol and Penelope are singing your praises. I'd love a copy of the pattern too if there's any way of sharing.
Thanks!

This has to be the cutest smockette I've ever seen! I think you need to give a tutorial on how to make it!!! Please!!!

Thank you for inspiring me!

Wonderful! Thanks for sharing! :^)

This is the cutest. I have 3 little nieces who would love one of these!

Thank you for the pattern, I made one today and was so pleased with how it came out. Many Thanks.

Thank you SO much for sharing this!!! It's so adorable. I've made a mock-up and will be making smockets for my girl's whole class. SO CUTE!!!

So cute! Thanks for posting the pattern--can't wait to make one (and maybe a grown-up size one too)!

Hi Alicia,
I just wanted to thank you for sharing your "smocket" with us. I am a novice sewer. My husband bought me a sewing machine for my birthday last week and the very first thing that I decided to attempt was the "smocket" (although mine doesn't have a pocket - so technically it's just a smock). I loved making it. It looks gorgeous on my five month old daughter. And seeing as I have twins, I think that I'm just going to have to make another one!

That's too cute. I'm going to have to try it! :) Thanks!!

Hi there, it's a bit late but I just wanted to thank you for posting this awesome tutorial which I used to great results to make my own nieces' very cute smockets -- they turned out so well! http://sienna.wordpress.com/2008/07/02/cute-little-girl-smockets/

Thanks again, I love your site!

Hi again! I made the smocket today for my youngest daughter and it looks so cute on her! I haven't posted any pics on my blog yet - she wasn't cooperating with the camera. LOL ... I have a question though, my oldest daughter wants one now. But she's a size 10. Do you have any suggestions on how I could make the pattern bigger? I'm brand new to sewing, so I have no clue how to do this. Thanks!

OH ! I just found exactly what I have been looking for! I bought a pattern alst week to make jumpers, and I have made 8 in the past 4 days... what can I say, I'm addicted. HOWEVER, I did NOT think about putting ties on nit instead of buttons. My buttonholer is broken and all the dresses are sitting here with no way to do them up... sooo THANK YOU for posting this... now I am going to sew late into the night putting cute contrast ties on the shoulders... yaaaaaaaaaaay!! Very cute kiddo, by the way. Mine is 18 months... ;)

Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful pattern! I love your site, beautiful photos too!! I can't wait to make these 'smockets' for all the little people I know!! :)

That's adorable! I love it! Great name for it!

Behold, another smocket in the UK!
Thanks for the pattern. Here's mine...
http://puddock.blogspot.com/2009/06/still-knitting-socks-mostly-but-i-got.html

I'm an official Smocket addict, having made two reversible ones for my children to cook/craft in and a beauty for myself out of vintage Liberty print and gingham. They also make a wonderful addition to a 'project present' for a child's birthday and I've just recieved a request for a waterproof one for bathing newborns. At a recent craft night, it was suggested that we make them as suntops to go over a pair of shorts. . . so now tha addiction continues into strawberry print and ricrac!

thankyou so much for your great link on this smocket.
How wonderful for 2 years for people to be trying this!

here in my beginners effort!

I have now made 3 and love them!

cheers
Bron

LOVE this! I have an apron obsession :) The pattern won't open! Darn. Anything I can do?
