what she wore and what he did

At the risk of turning this place into the What She Wore Today Show, you HAVE to see what she wore today.

My new friend Jennifer made this sweater. Isn't it amazing?! She made a similar one for her daughter and I raved about it, and her daughter really wanted the Olive and Archie dolls, so we arranged a swap. It really deserves a skirt and some tights, but I couldn't wait that long to show you all. Jennifer is so talented, makes all kinds of things, knits, and her photographs- even the everyday snapshots- are just beautiful. Thank you, dearest. We absolutely love it!

And you'll never believe what Brian did this time. He spent the evening Tuesday switching from garage to laptop, laptop to garage, then after a quick trip to the auto supply place and then back to the garage, he replaced the brakes on his car! And mind you, before this he knew nothing about brakes. I told him to drive slowly the first day, just to be sure. *wink* He told me he had to do it himself because, "Mama needs a new camera." I LOVE THIS MAN.

I'm pretty sure it's either this one or this one.

A little help? Please?

You are both lucky girls! I love that sweater, kids have the best clothes.

I have the Canon and have been very happy with it. My father-in-law has the Nikon and is very happy with it. I'm not really sure how they compare side by side, but I do know that I know of no complaints.

All the research I did before buying my Canon (online, talking to photographers, etc) indicated that Canon was the leader in digital photos, whereas Nikon entered late and has been catching up. It may be that at this point they've caught up, or caught up enough. I can tell you that the Canon is professional-grade. It is hawt. My father-in-law doesn't use his camera for that sort of thing - he takes family photos wih it - so I don't know.

I'd imagine most people shrink their photos before uploading them to Flickr and Flickr does another round of compression as part of the process, so you should bear that in mind if you're considering the photos there. The good news is that the quality degradation would happen equally to both the Canon and Nikon photos. I have some fairly unprocessed prints from my Canon at my web site (http://alexisallen.net/postcards/colorado/) if you're interested.

In my case at least, I find that the camera has no limitations. It's usually the photographer that's the problem! You can point-and-click, especially in automatic mode, but I like to mess with depth of field and off-center focus and yadda yadda, which the Canon accomodates very well. It also allows me to take blurry photos, yellow photos, poorly composed photos... there's no idiot proofing once you leave AUTO. Personally, I prefer it that way. :)

I would recommend the Canon if you want a camera you can't really outgrow. If you just want to take nice photos, however, then go with whatever's cheapest, since either is likely to be more than sufficient.

Hope it helps! Let me know if you have any questions, although I have probably babbled too much about it already.

omgosh... that is just the CUTEST sweater.... great swap... can she be any cuter ??? Cant wait to hear which camera you go with./. I need one too.

So we're huge canon fans here but nikon makes very good gear as well. She looks fabulous in her sweater and I'm so glad it fits her well. I knew that color would be good with her eyes but it's even better than I imagined.

I'm guessing you don't have to worry about the brakes. Most cars are pretty easy, even my sister can change her own brakes. If you ever need any basic car help, just shoot me an email. My Brian was a mechanic, so he's aces at car repair!

You daughter looks GORGEOUS in that sweater. Purple is a great color for her. She's just so cute, I don't even know what to say! :D

oh, that sweater is unbelievable! what a great swap.

i have the canon and i love it! i know nothing about the nikon so i am not much help there, but i give the canon a big thumbs up.

we've been having with my little cannon so aaron did some research and found out the digital cannons are having shutter problems across the board, even the bigger boys.

so i'd go with the nikon. that's what i plan to get when i upgrade.

Hey,there. I lurk, therefore I am. Arh,arh!!!!! I am working toward a blog need a bit more time. Anyway, I stop in to see the children and pets. The clothes on your babe are the cutest. I like to see what she is wearing. You should have a what punkn' is wearing day. The sweater is the prettiest thing I have seen done in the type of yarn she used. Love it!

Seriously - that sweater - & that child...both are just too cute. I have the Canon as well and am in love with it. If you have any specific questions - I'd be happy to share my two cents.

What a cute sweater!

Good for Brian!

I have heard good things about the Nikon. I have a Canon (not that same one though), and it is pretty good.

We are a Canon family (we have a total of 5 Canons) Though I would recommend going to a camera store and trying to hold them both if you are planning to shoot while holding the camera because each has a slightly different feel. If you are using a tripod that part obviously wont matter *smile*

Good for Brian!
Your little angel looks precious in her cool new sweater.
Can't help you with the camera, but I've enjoyed reading the other comments. I'd love to upgrade myself.

You know what I'm gonna say about the camera ... get the Canon!

And the sweater! Oh, my! It is so cute, but that N? She's the cutest EVER! And purple does look fabulous on her!

I would go for the Canon. They have top quality lenses...(make sure it is a canon lens. Some camera places sell Canons with other manufacturer's lenses.) I have a Canon Rebel 2000 SLR and I have been so happy with it. I then got a Canon Powershot A610 and it has been nothing but wonderful. I would love a digital Rebel. I haven't heard about the shutter problem that was mentioned above. I haven't had any problems with mine. It is easy to use and is set up rather intuitively. A great product with a great history.

Do you perhaps know where she got that pattern for that? It is so adorable, and I'd love to make it for my daughter. Your little girl is just a cutie, too!

I have the canon xti. I got it about three months ago and I love it. My daughter was on the same fence about purchasing her new camera and chose the nikon. she's in a visual arts major and I think there was some influence from a professor. They are both basically the same. I love my xti and wouldn't even think twice about the nikon.

I love the sweater!
