starting again

toschool.JPG

School started yesterday. My son will now be gone all day. I find myself swinging between sheer excitement over more free time and sadness over not seeing him enough. We're looking for our footing with the new routine and I really want to make our home as tidy and streamlined as possible, which just isn't always possible with two small children. But I sure am trying! Life feels like one unsteady marathon of finding your footing sometimes, doesn't it?

It's still very hot outside- and humid too. When we go outside we move in slow motion. But inside I'm stuck on fast-forward. Cleaning and purging once again. How does all this make its way here? And I'm making lists like mad. Lists of books to read. Lists of errands to run. Lists of things to research. Projects to start. Projects to finish. Goals to accomplish. Sheesh. There's always so much to think about. It gets exhausting.

I've got some computer projects to work on and little gifts to make. I'll be posting just photos next week so I can concentrate on them and finally call them done. The photos will be inspired by the idea behind this book I saw over at Shari's. It looks so beautiful. I requested it via interlibrary loan yesterday. I hope it comes quickly.

Life IS art. Yes. That's the thing right there, isn't it? I SWEAR I will find some of it under all this clutter. : )

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

There's something about a new school year that makes you want to organize and clean. Maybe it's all the nice, new school supplies or the anticipation of fall. Good luck.

my girls start school next week. then the purging begins...i am right there with you. trying to make everything easier for all of us.

I'm looking forward to cutting my work schedule by 8 hours a week now that Aidin is in school. That extra two hours four days a week might just help me find my floor.

Have fun, J! And try not to miss him too much mom and little N.

I constantly have a zillion lists laying around the house, even if I never look at them again. I think the act of making the lists helps organize my brain!

I really need to check out that book too. So interesting cause I've been thinking to do a similar (if much less "artistic") photographic study of our everyday lives for my return to blogging in September. I need a project to kick start me back into a blogging rhythm. Thanks for the link and looking forward to your photos.

Good luck with your new rhythm with your big boy.

Life is art; I agree. When I remember that, small things become very special. Thank you!
(I'm in Lawrence & found you through flickr)

I have the constant battle with clutter too- and I only have a dog and a man to contend with. I am always amazed by people with children who have such organised lives! Good luck getting it all under control :)

I'm feeling the need to purge our house too. So. Much. Junk. Have fun at school J.

i know how you feel. i so wanted the kids to go back to school, but missed them so badly i ached. being a mom is crazy confusing!

That book looks good. There's another one I was looking at called "everyday" something or other it is a photo diary. It was on Amazon I think.
Anyway. Congrats to J. I hope he has a wonderful year and you all find you footing. I can so relate. We've had a lot going on here too- AND HOT!!! man, is it every. bluck.
love to ya.

I love that photo of your boy with his backpack. So full of promise! Good luck with your lists. I'd get right on my stack of lists if I could remember where I put them :-)

I hear you on the lists. I need to get some of that going myself. There is much purging to be done here. But first, must get sick and teething boy down for nap and finish knitting samples for demo thingie tomorrow. What's that? Will post on it tomorrow or Monday. xoxxo

dude, if your house is "cluttered" then my house is "the satanic pack rat's lier."

looking forward to your photos. the albert hastings book has me inspired to try a similar project with my grandmother. enjoy your weekend and try to stay cool! xo

Best wishes for J on the start of school - he's going to something like primary school this year? I notice he's carrying 2 bags - my kids have lots of things to bring to school too :)

1st grade. amazing. i have to pinch myself sometimes. unsteady indeed! i feel it too. well done mom!

can't wait to see the art you capture next week - i know you will. (that first shot up there is a gem.) xo

It's the Fresh New School Year Purge... It's that, or start a class, and looks like First Grade will have enough student, w/ your J. Who, by the way, is BIG.

p.s.-
i've tagged you for a Meme... forgive me (although, perhaps you're 8 postings can be in photo form only... that would make a neat project?)

I look forward to 4 in school this year. I'm hoping to get my house tidied up some. Summers with all the kids home makes my house a wreck.

This is our last week of summer before school starts, so I'll have to put up with is a bit longer.

I can't believe school is starting already!! wow, summer has passed me so quickly, but I am looking forward to fall....

I can't wait to see your pictures this week. That book is beautiful.
