wedding photographer for a day
A few months ago my friend Randy called to ask if I'd consider photographing a wedding. The bride was a good friend of his and was trying to put together a lovely wedding on a shoestring budget. "Of course!" I said. (Anything for Randy, who by the way, planned, cooked and served all the incredible food that day. WOW!) We agreed on a very modest price, and a few weeks ago I played the roll of wedding photographer for a day. I even took control at posed, group-shot time hollering out things like, "Let's get one of the bride and all her men... Groomsmen?! Where have all my groomsmen gone?" Heeee!
By the end of the evening, I was completely smitten with the couple and felt honored to have such an intimate role in their life-changing day. Aren't they the sweetest little family you've ever laid your eyes on?
I took all the traditional shots but also hoped to capture the small details that made the wedding feel so special. Would I like to do this for a living? NO WAY. But it was truly a such special treat on that beautiful afternoon.
Oh, and I saw the bride at a party Saturday night. She loved the photos. Big smile from me.

All the photos you took look wonderful. We took photos of my sister's wedding and thought the same thing - glad we didn't do this for a living. There's too much pressure.

Well of course she liked them! :) What silly bride wouldn't? They're really beautiful.
I don't think I'd want to do that for a full-time job either -- the stress!

It seems you did an amazing job. Way to go!! I wish I could go back and have you shoot MY wedding day. :) I paid an extravagant photographer - and walked away loving everyone's candid shots better than his. You did great at capturing the mood, setting and little bits that are easily overlooked.

Great job! They were very fortunate to have you take their photos and bring both your artistic sense and ability to 'see' people into the role. Love these.

those are great photos, personable, beautiful and artistic. I like all the various angles, and close-ups you took as well. I'm so glad the bride is happy with them, she has every reason to be! :)

What gorgeous photos! You captured the details so well. My friend, who's a professional wedding photographer, talks about capturing the 'moments', which is an idea I love. Your style reminds me so much of hers. You have a great eye. And now I REALLY want to go ahead with that camera upgrade!

Wow, you are truly talented. The couple was very lucky to have snagged you for a one-time special deal. This is the first time I've commented on your site, I think, but I just had to join everyone in applauding your work. Joy and light just radiate from each photo. :0)

These are such beautiful and heartfelt photos... Great job!! I think I'm smitten, too!
At one of my own friend's wedding years ago, the high-paid photographer didn't show up... I happened to have my camera and was forced to take the wedding photos----gasp!! I worked at a photo lab at the time (back in those "film days") and was able to preview all the shots... I can't tell you how relieved I was that they turned out! I have to give it to those Wedding Photographers! What a stressful profession! ; )

Wonderful photos. My favorite is the one of the three of them. Her face is so sweet, so pretty the way she's looking at the camera. It's so nice seeing people love each other.

amazing photos, alicia. i always feel that the ones that capture the moment and are the most important shots aren't the traditionals, but the candids and those that show those simple yet important details. you've done a really lovely job!!
