a funny birthday story

Today's the kid's birthday. We woke up to a lovely blanket of white- two inches or so. It made him squeal. But not enough snow to even turn on the T.V. (Can you guess where this is going yet?)

snow day?!?!

Scrambled eggs with cheese (his favorite) were eaten off the red plate. "You are special today."

birthday cupcakes

He got dressed, tied his own shoes, loaded up his trays of cupcakes, helped daddy scrape off the car, and headed to school with a giant smile on his face.

Then turned around and came home when it was discovered that the school was all locked up.........

for a SNOW day! Now that's a great gift for a SEVEN year old!

That fabulous! So that's about 25 cupcakes all to himself and a snow day? How fun!!

that is hilarious! happy, happy.

Happy Birthday to your sweet 7 yr old!

What a lovely story. Those kind of surprises are the best!

Well, I guess it will be cupcakes tomorrow.

...i have to say that glinting on the snow really opened a memory inside me... i love it..

happy birthday and blessings to son and family.

:) That's great. Perfect birthday surprise! We have one of those plates, too... I love it. Happy Happy Day!

I'm chuckling at this. He will remember this birthday won't he? so fun...

Does that mean you have to bake another batch of cupcakes tonight for tomorrow?

Happy Birthday, J! And happy snow day, too!

And I see you haven't posted his birthday present before you gave it to him, like last year. Smart mama.

I can't believe they made today a snow day! I mean, it's snowy but not a blizzard...but extremely cool for him. Maybe they just knew what he wanted for a present!

That is a treat! Happy birthday, J!!!

(On my tenth birthday it snowed and school let out early. In the early part of October. I'll never forget that day. Oh, and my mother was just getting home from the hospital after having my sister.)

happy birthday! enjoy your snowday and fill up on yummy cupcakes...

Happy birthday to J! A snow day is a good gift, though I'm surprised they had one today. It's not THAT bad out there...

Aw - a snow day is a great gift but an unexpected snow day is a legendary gift! He'll remember that forever. Happy birthday kiddo.

Happy Birthday! A snow day would be high on my birthday wishlist.

That's awesome. Happy Birthday!

and who, pray tell, ate all the cupcakes???

When I got to the bottom of the post and read the word SEVEN (even though I knew that was the magic number), I actually got all choked up. Seven! Such a big boy!

The cupcakes look divine, of course. Lovely photography all around.

And, oh, yes, HAPPY BIRTHDAY J!!!!!!

whoa, that's my birthday wish to this day and I'm 32!! mind you, an August birthday means it's pretty much a pipe dream for me, but I'm glad your little guy got to enjoy it! happy day!

happy birthday j! i hope you all got to play in that snow.

happy birthday to your 7 year old! it's a great age. :) enjoy your snow.

I bet he'll talk about that birthday surprise for years to come! Happy Birthday little man! 7 is BIG!
