scenes from the train

Brian's grandmother's funeral was Saturday morning. She was the spunkiest, kindest little thing you ever met, living a blessed 94 years, and although her body failed her, her mind was as clear as a bell right up to the end.

The scene not pictured from the train ride to St. Louis is the little boy sporting his engineer overalls, who left the house before sunrise feeling a little tired but who somewhere around Jefferson City developed a raging fever. He slept fitfully and missed all the beautiful scenery and excitement. (Influenza bites, my friends, but the Tamiflu seems to be doing its thing.)

p.s. the return ride was much better.

I'm sorry for your loss. Good thing you got your little one in early. I got sick this year, but by the time I went in, I had missed the time to get tamiflu. The train ride looks wonderful.

Even though the loss is sad, isn't there something amazing about a long, happy, well-lived life?

Beautiful pictures. Glad the little engineer had a better trip home.

Beautiful pictures. Really beautiful. I think we had that same shirt that N has on there. Cute.

So sorry to hear about J. I hope he's getting well very quickly!!! My husband and I woke up today feeling suspiciously yucky, but I'm trying to ignore that since it's my big day and all. ;)

gorgeous photos.
so sorry for your loss.

Oh that influenza, it's mean. I'm so sorry about Brian's grandmother. I remember photos of one of his grandmothers from last summer.

oh man, I haven't been on the train in so long. my mom and I would ride from Reno to NJ when I was little (She still does this almost annually to see family as she doesn't fly). There is something magical aout being on the train- listening to the sound of the tracks below and just watching the landscape pass by.

I received my Where ya'at swap on Saturday and promptly stuck the bulb in the water with the paper white that is just starting to fade- perfect timing friend! thank you.

so sorry to hear about brian's grandmother. lovely train photos.

get better j. hope you all avoid it.

oh alicia. i'm sending hugs to all of you. and keeping my fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.

(and the train. it's my favorite way to travel. lovely images.)

I'm sorry to hear about Brian's grandmother.

I hope J is feeling better. I love that photo of N. Too cute.

Oh, the flu is no fun. And i am sorry to hear about Brian's grandmother. Here's to hoping you have a peaceful week.

I'm glad you're back! :)

Sorry to hear of the death of Brian's grandmother.

Great pics!

Beautiful photos. Sorry to hear of your loss and the flu.

your photos are beautiful and so is that child! its interesting that you show us "loss" or the moving on of one life by bringing us with you on a moving train--life is such a thing, chugging us along, from under our feet. That we get on it, that we look out the window, at the motion, the beauty... that is the grace, i think, to remember and keep the loveliest of it all, close at heart and hand.

Peace.

How was that train ride itself? We always think about doing it when we go to KC, and Jack is a train fanatic, but I am not sure it is worth it. (Being stuck on a train with him for many hours, that is, lol.)

So sorry to hear about your loss, Alicia, but so glad to hear that she had a long and full life.

I hope that little man of yours is fully recovered and that he was able to soak up and enjoy all of that return trip!

I know I said this already in your flickr stream, but wonderful photographs. xx

My condolences to you and Brian, it's a blessing that you have so many good memories of his Grandma. Poor J, all decked out and not being able to enjoy the train ride; glad to hear he felt better on the way home.

She sounds like Chris' great grandma -- she made it to 99 and was still beating everyone at Scrabble.

I hope J is feeling better!

I'm sorry to here about your family's loss.

What a sweet face. Looks like she was enjoying the view from the train.
