sweet little pilgrim

I mentioned the other day that my friend asked me to make her daughter something else- a dress for their upcoming trip to the East Coast and Colonial Williamsburg (or was it Plymouth Plantation?) Either way, I finished it yesterday and it it is adorable.

vermeer-esque

Made from this pattern, it was the most complicated dress I have ever sewn (and I made my own wedding dress!) I didn't line the bodice to keep it light-weight for the hot weather, so are were more exposed seams on the inside than I would normally like. Other than that, it turned out great, and she really seems to like it.

dress

And the icing on the cake? In a few years after she has outgrown it, little N will probably get to wear it too.

Happy Monday. J and I are going to make some lemon bars now! Shall I save you one?

what a nice vacation week

was it ever... sigh.

We had a wonderful trip. We camped with friends the first few days then by ourselves in a very quiet campground a few days more. We don't exactly rough-it, but we're not afraid to get dirty (and a little stinky!). It was perfect.

We swam every day. We saw bugs and a turtle and raccoons and bald eagles (oh my!) We hiked. Mid-week we ate a nice meal with Heather, Matt and Rachel in town. We hung around in the hammock. We stayed up late laughing. We went to bed early yawning. We cooked over the fire. We hated to leave.

Home for several days now, we've been moving in vacation time. It's been so nice. I love my little family.

The camping photos are all film, but I'm thrilled that my digital camera is finally home. The Noticing Project will now return to regularly scheduled programming. And I'll be back posting journal entries at Echoes.

Happy Monday, my good friends. Have a great week!

everything and

the sink

We're almost all packed up for a camping trip, so you won't hear from me for a bit. I can't wait to unplug and unwind. It's been a hectic week.

We're taking next week off at the Noticing Project. Gasp! I know. We'll be back the week after.

My camera will be home soon. All fixed up for free! Gotta love Canon.

Thank you for being so enthusiastic about Echoes. And thanks for playing along!

I work so hard at eating healthy and pesticide free and live in an environmentally friendly manner. So I feel really conflicted because today I've scheduled to have our home sprayed with poison. Alas, we can't let these critters take over now can we? Ick. They're bad.

Hey, do me a favor. Go over and wish Heather and Matt a happy anniversary. OK? They are about the sweetest couple ever.

It's Friday! Have a great weekend, folks.

echoes (tired smile.)

walnut by walnut

We're tired today. This little worker has a fever and kept us up in the night. Good thing there was something exciting to get me out of bed this morning!

It is thrilling (and a relief) the way you have responded to the change in the Noticing Project while my camera is off enjoying her little spa vacation. And when someone says we've inspired them? Well, that's just incredible. So when Emily and Rachel got their wheels turning about an online journaling project loosely inspired by the new twist over there, I jumped on board. Of course.

Please stop in and visit Echoes: a Collaborative Journal. Emily, Rachel, Heather and I will be posting entries nearly every day in July and August- little tidbits of our days, moments that inspired us, the thoughts swimming about in our heads- all in different media but all with images and words. Sometimes my entries may be related to my NP pieces, sometimes not, but I'm excited to keep the energy of the new NP vibe flowing even after things are business as usual over there again.

Oh! And won't you join us? We've created an Echoes Flickr group, so you can post too. I can't wait to see your journal entries!

Happy Monday. I'm off to snuggle my warm boy on the couch.

cross processing is magic

Oh my. Cross processing is good. Very good. The super-saturated color. I love it.

hy-vee peaches

But it's good in the way that a very rich chocolate cake is good- with its super-saturated flavor. I must practice a little restraint. I think I need to shoot a few rolls of regular film before I try it again.

So, how does it work? I asked Hannah about it ages ago and then talked to Rachel. And this is the gist: you shoot slide film and then have it cross processed into prints. That's all. It works the other way too (print film into slides) but who has a use for slides? Not me.

Most of this roll has a nostalgic Summer in the Suburbs feel which of course got my wheels turning about a photography project for myself. So, I'll be quietly working on that.

i need my umbrella, mom.

And speaking of projects, there's another one in the works with some ladies that most of you know and love! Come back Monday to hear about it.

Have a wonderful (holiday) weekend!!
