today
My local bloggy friends know how I feel about "look what I got posts" and I'll explain that** in a minute. But hey, girls, forget that for a sec because, um, look at this!
This necklace is from Lisa Leonard. Isn't it just beautiful? I wanted something sort of peaceful, something to remind me to live in the moment. And Brian suggested the word 'today' as a nice reminder to not fuss over the rest. I've been wearing it almost constantly since it arrived. It is perfect.
Lisa is a talented jewelry artist and everything in her shop is pretty much amazing. Her blog is so pretty and yet honest; she seems like a genuinely sweet person. I really am honored to own one of her necklaces. I may have to order my sister a little belated birthday gift.
** So, now about the my statement above, I really don't want to offend anyone and get all negative. I love new stuff as much as the next gal. But we live pretty darn well on a smallish income and that means very few fun extras. If I read too many posts in a day about fancy camera lenses and sewing machines and big bundles of Japanese fabrics and fancy shoes and bags, I feel myself getting all annoyed and wanty and jealous. Usually it just means it's time to shut off the computer for awhile.
BUT I do see the huge value of reciprocal advertising for hardworking artists and small-time designers. After all, isn't that one of the benefits of this little community? And I love it when folks post a little bit about something I've made!
I didn't mean to turn this post into a discussion on consumerism, so that's all I have to say about that. ; )**
ANYWAY, I love my new necklace and it makes me very happy. Thanks, Lisa.

I love that you put the word "today" on it. That's really nice. I often have a hard time living in the moment.
I think there is a difference between overbuying and being excited about using something that someone made with love. (and I think you definitely fall under the latter here!) I, for one, am very excited about my birthday gift from Chris. (hint: hsj)

It's beautiful, Alicia. And such a sweet reminder of right here, right now.

I love the necklace A. It really suits you I think. And you know I hear where you're coming from... which is why all of my purchases come from craigslist, the only store I can afford :)

:) I'm so happy for you! It's beautiful and so... you. Anyway, love it.
And I'm glad you have you back, too.

that necklace is beautiful! and i do agree with you about the "look what i got" posts. they make me all wanty and annoying too. but, it is great to promote those artists that we love. there's a fine line.

you know, that's just why i cancelled all of my magazine subscriptions. they gave me the i'm-not-satisfied-with-what-i've-got-even-though-i've-got-plenty feeling. i know it so well.
your necklace is simply wonderful.

Beautiful necklace - I love the sentiment! I LOVE Lisa's jewelry - I have one of her necklaces with my kid's initials and I also wear it a lot!

It's gorgeous, Alicia. I LOVE the sentiment. I need to be reminded of that more often.

Oh, I love it! I already have a necklace from her, and like you, I wear it almost daily. (Mine says 'listen', and my boys now tell me sometimes at breakfast as I try to read the paper, "Mom, you should really wear your listen necklace today because you're not listening to us," which I guess is both a positive and a negative to my lovely trinket!)

your necklace is lovely and it shows how much you appreciate it. your sentiment on sharing the goods is sweet and gentle, not negative at all. and the photo you used is just striking!

'I love my new necklace and it makes me very happy'
That's all you had to say cause that is all that matters. :)

I've been thinking about living in the moment alot lately too. Today is the perfect word.
I also think it's important to choose what you buy well, so you will have it a long time.
Handmade will always have a special meaning and so, hopefully, will be with you a long time.

Lovely necklace! My birthday is coming up and i've been looking on Etsy at getting a similar necklace handmade with my kid's and husband's initials. I'm glad I came across your post because Lisa's work is the best I have found so far!
BTW 'today' is a perfect word - a good reminder that 'now' is all that matters.
Enjoy your necklace and enjoy today! Cheers.

You know that I'm just like you in that regard. But I also agree with you about doing a little bit of reciprocal advertising.

lovely necklace! good idea, and wonderful thoughts too, the wanty stuff is hard to handle, though I love reading blogs they are kind of like ads and make me buy when I shouldn't...thanks for the reminder to turn it off, like the tv.

It is a beautiful necklace. I am planning on getting one for my sister for her 40th.
I love the meaning behind the word 'today' simple, sweet and a great reminder of what is important.

Oh how pretty! I went over to her shop. I am going to order a necklace. I have been looking for something to get to celibrate the fact that I am finished with my cancer treatments and these are perfect, and I can choose the words! How great is that! Thanks!
