November 28, 2008

done

It was a wonderful day- hectic while getting ready, loud during (21 of us in all) and calm after.

before

after

Just exactly as it should be. I am feeling very grateful.

A pleasant side effect of hosting: the house is clean and there are plenty of left-overs to enjoy!

another tuesday, another list

Poof! Where'd Monday go?
It's a brisk but sunny Tuesday morning here. How is it where you are?

01

always with the lists

I am making a list as always. It's a little bit pitiful when two of my list items are to make more lists (grocery and christmas lists). Hmmmm. At least these lists help me feel more organized even if I'm not.

The basement is moving along slowly but surely. We're painting now. There was more construction and prep work than expected, which is of course to be expected. You'd think- 11 years and two houses later- we'd have learned that lesson.

I'm hosting Thanksgiving so today's list includes brining the turkey and making my grocery list. And making pumpkin muffins, but that's just a treat for us this afternoon. : )

I always make something for my kids for one of their Christmas gifts. J wants a tee pee. I have big plans, but I'm wondering how to transport 7' dowels to St. Louis for Christmas without giving it away. N wants a crown. At least that one is pretty easy.

I think this may be all you see of me this week here- it's cooking and cleaning and kids out of school time.

Happy Thanksgiving to you! (Eat a bunch, k?)

pass it on

art will take you places.

I love it- thanks go to a flickr friend for that one. Hope you're having a nice weekend!

s t i l l

Hello. Good morning and hot coffee to you all. ; )

Taking advantage of a little calm and quiet to take a s t i l l : body photo this morning. I wanted there to be a sense of weight, of tired heaviness leaning on my hands.

not an easy feeling to convey.

because I love a good list

Well then. Hello there. That was a good day!

candle

treat from a friend

Thank you SO MUCH for all the wonderful birthday wishes. As we were climbing into bed last night, I told Bri, "It makes me really really happy to have so many friends and family tell me happy birthday." It makes me feel loved. That is a great feeling.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

Here is my list for today:

1. Fried eggs are so yummy. I ate two this morning. (and that's really unlike me.)
2. I have really good friends.
3. A few of my best ones are coming over tonight for homemade pizza.
4. I'm starting on my handmade Christmas gifts.
a. making will increase.
b. sharing will decrease. (hello, peekers. you know who you are.)
5. I vow to make this skirt for myself for the holidays. Time to hunt down that magazine.
6. I hope to make this dress for N for the holidays thanks to another good friend.
7. N says really cute things:
a. "look mom. those leaves are waving goodbye to the sky."
b. "now there's something you don't see everyday."
c. to her teachers- "guess what. my brother is allergic to me." (huh?!)
d. "mommy. you are my best."
8. Brian is taking next week off and we're starting in earnest on the basement. This means:
a. some minor-ish construction.
b. A LOT of painting.
c. some tile work.
d. finding and installing a new bar sink and faucet.
e. more painting.
f. laying carpet tiles. (local peeps- the ReStore has really high quality, good looking FLOR-ish carpet tiles right now.)
g. a couple of cool art projects.
h. driving around town entering every contest for a flat screen t.v. we can find. We (Brian) really wants a "big-ass" television down there and we for sure don't have the money. Think that will work?
9. I won't be around much next week because of list items 8 a-h.
10. If I find time, I might try to submit a couple of photos to the s t i l l : body challenge over here.

11. Be good and have a great weekend!

November 13, 2008

thirty-five.

AGAIN.

Wink, wink. I do believe I'll just stay put, thankyouverymuch. The pendulum is tipping just a bit too much towards forty.

me with the bird

Me? Big dork. Being goofy keeps you young, right?

November 12, 2008

and today is green

It's grey actually- cold and grey, but here's a little green to brighten things up:

i love fondue

•a gift from my mom. A super-groovy fondue pot. I love it.

not feeling it

•working on Melissa's square for the VQB. It is real, real bad. Now don't start saying it isn't- this picture is flattering. It. is. UGly.
Back to the sketch pad.

And speaking of brightening, (knock, knock) the sun might peek through this afternoon!

November 9, 2008

fundraising season

Auction season has begun at our elementary school. I donated the tea towels + bamboo serving utensils.

for the auction

chef apron + spices
My friend Wyatt asked me to put together an item for him as well. His gift is a handmade linen and cotton chef's apron + a gift box of Penzey's spices.

And as soon as she's done with her lunch, N and I are going to bake something for the bake sale tomorrow.

What shall it be? Banana bread? Brownies? Cheesy bread? Hmmmmm...

November 5, 2008

it's my color and I'm stickin to it

A lighter shade but I still love it.

n's heart

my month :: november

top: a heart ornament from Heather for my N. I buy my kids an ornament every year. This one is more expensive but also infinitely more meaningful than the Target 1/2 price after Christmas sale. Plus how could I resist... my honeypie works for Habitat.

bottom: the fabric for my month of the VQB. We (myself included) seem to have lost some oomph and are a bit behind, but I am still excited about my month. I'll explain more later. : )

I am having a good day.

November 4, 2008

the day has come

We voted early. Did you vote yet? Well, go get in line then. ; )

tulip tree
today

I'm feeling a little anxious and a lot hopeful.

How are you feeling?

November 1, 2008

halloween is good

and I love it. It's one of my favorite nights of the year.

capn
fire
ladybug

The weather was perfect. I mean perfect. There were friends and beers and big pots of soup and a fire pit and tricking and treating and a certain ladybug and ship captain who ate too much candy and an outdoor movie and really, it was all just perfect.

I mean perfect.
