Please visit the Noticing Project and do some noticing... today is the last day to enter our little drawing!

March 30, 2009

real quick-like

Hey there! How's your Monday morning treating you?

ice

We did indeed get ice and snow, but not as much as they originally predicted. The temps never dropped below 32º F and everything is already nearly melted. I dare say all of the flowering and budding trees are a-ok!

What a nice weekend- I had a mural job, we had dinner with new friends, and we're dangerously close to some basement "after" photos. Oh, and there was a very melty snowman too.

I thought while I'm here, I'd show you this other quick thing. Last week I made these two little clips for N and her best friend. Ten minutes and two happy little ones.

These two little girlies. They warm my heart. They are like peas and carrots.

spring flowers

Hello. Yesterday I was sick in bed all day long with something fast and furious. Food poisoning maybe? I just can't think of much questionable I could have eaten. But just so you know, I have the absolute BEST husband in the whole world. I feel bad for the rest of you. Wink.

I'm MUCH better today, but I have that weak feeling. Sort of hungry, mostly not. Very thirsty and in a daze.

daffs

Brian told me this morning that it is supposed to snow tomorrow. I just checked the weather forecast and their saying 8-11 inches?!?! Seriously?! I've been frantically cutting all the daffodils in our yard and putting them in vases. It is very cheerful in here. I'm hoping the best for the flowering trees and our lilacs and raspberries. Please come back Spring.

(Have a great weekend!)

a few more

I'm having trouble thinking of much to say, so here are a few more film photographs from Galveston. Unfortunately, I didn't take the film camera down to the beach even once- only the digital. Why didn't I?!

Wonderful Wednesday to you!

film from tx

Hello. We are easing back into school today after our long break. It really was a terrific break.

I thought I'd share a few of the photos I took in Texas, starting with a little film.

The Star Drugstore in downtown Galveston- the first restaurant to reopen after the hurricane. (More are open now.) ADORABLE.

we went to the beach

During Spring Break we took a little trip. Galveston, TX is rebuilding quite nicely after Ike. It was very interesting. I photographed these beach collections while we where there; I'm thinking of framing them together for our new basement.

something sweet to look at

I just wanted to pop in and say that I'll be taking a little internet break since my kiddos are on Spring Break. Well, I'll still be over at the Noticing Project daily. Don't forget to keep playing along over there while I'm gone.

something sweet

I just can't post without a photo, so here are some cupcakes to look at.

I have a problem

A really big problem. Ask Rachel. She laughed at me today. "You and your goat cheese," she said. I know. I had eaten it in restaurants, but until about a year ago, I had never purchased it. Now I am utterly addicted. I made a quiche with spinach sauteed with a little garlic and goat cheese. It was yummy.

quiche

I almost bought a ready-made crust and then I read the ingredients. Ick. Fully hydrogenated lard. Partially hydrogenated lard. And lard. All three on the list. I had no idea there were so many types of lard. Crisco isn't much better which is what I always use for a crust, but oh well.

croutons

And also I have a frugal cooking tip for you. If you can catch your bread at stale, maybe even just beginning to mold but before it begins to resemble a 7th grade science experiment, you can cut off the tiny bit of mold and chunk it up. Toss it in a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkling of seasoning salt (or sea salt and pepper or ranch seasoning or parmesan cheese) and toast in the oven to make very tasty homemade croutons.

That is all. Perhaps I'll "see" you tomorrow.

Ciao.

virtual quilting bee: august, january

virtual quilting bee: august

Yes. August is right, but this time it wasn't my fault. Poor Eren packed up and sent her first batch of fabrics and the box was swallowed up by the black hole of lost postage. Eventually she gave up the hunt and sent new fabric.

virtual quilting bee: january

The second square is for Sarah. You can click through to Flickr to see more details if you're interested. I only have two more squares to finish up for the VQB.

It's a little dreary hear today. I hope it's sunny where you are.

green, 4 & 5

painting

walkway

Today I picked up a roll of slide film that I had cross processed and I love almost all of the prints. The film was expensive and 36 exposures so I was especially stingy with each shot- it was in the camera for a looooong time. Let's just say there are colorful trees and pumpkins on this roll. It's hard to decide where to start showing them to you, so I figure I'll start with a few greenies.

The weather today and yesterday has been A-MAZ-ING. I hope it lasts through the weekend.

Happy Friday!

p.s. Don't forget to keep playing along over at the NP.

green

We're feeling a little harried today. Busy, busy. Cleaning, cleaning. Fretting over big grown-up type words like refinance rates, county tax assessments, appraisals. Yikes. The boys are out tidying the yard while Miss N gets muddy- at least the weather is amazing.

March 3, 2009

green, 2 (it's melting)

Thank goodness! The daffs are happy too, I do believe.

Happy Tuesday!

p.s. Don't forget to keep playing along at the Noticing Project. You can notice (enter) every day if you fancy.

March 2, 2009

it's pretty easy being green

It's Green Week. Just in time to celebrate that Spring is coming and we made it through February without flinging ourselves off any craggy cliffs.

the fixins

My sweetie just stopped by home for lunch, and I made us the best sandwiches:

sliced red peppers and purple onions caramelized in a little olive oil
a healthy spread of hummus (made yesterday afternoon)
sliced cukes
a sprinkling of salt and pepper
lettuce
on a toasted whole wheat bagel

Deeee-wishous.

Don't forget to stop over at the Noticing Project {2009} to see our new little game... and there's a gonna be a giveaway! : )
