girls vs. boys

The kids both had their friends over for their birthday parties this weekend, and the differences were pretty funny. She had a tea party, and he took a few friends swimming at the community center then headed back here for cake.

Her:
all ready
Fancy table with dainty snacks. Sipping tea & eating heart shaped sandwiches. Chit-chat. Good manners.

Him:
war
Swimming, sliding, dunking. Whooping, stomping, crazy nerf gun war, ganging up on daddy.

Her: Hello Kitty craft kits, Barbies, flowery headbands and necklaces.

Him: Nerf guns, flying helicopters, Nerf balls, more Nerf guns.

Her:
the sweets
Pink cake, chocolate covered strawberries.

Him:
baseball cake
Baseball cake (again), ice cream with chocolate sauce.

Her: Little girls in dresses calmly painting tea cups, giggling, playing with dolls.

Him: Fart jokes, planning the cuss words they'll be able to say when they're 18, tackling, hording "ammo", taking prisoners.

Her:
thesong
Three gentle little breaths to blow out five pink and purple curly candles.

Him:
lightingcandles
One giant wolfish puff to rapidly extinguish all nine crayon candles.

Me: Dog tired.

(Hope you're having a good Monday. We're laying low, watching it snow, making soup.)

This is a fantastic post.
Happy, funny and real!
Get some rest now...

her cake is precious. i bet both thoroughly enjoyed their unique parties. you're such a great mom!

What a sweet post.
How close are the actual birth days?
I am always so facinated that family birthdays seem to fall in groups on the calendar :)

Whew after all that I hope you're laying low! I like those contrasts and their personalities. So sweet and fun!

Wow! You're an amazing Mum, I find doing one party daunting let alone two!

Love the cakes!

love your post, very sweet and just fitting photos. what a great mom you are (and of course the dad certainly too), to organize those parties!

Sounds like great parties to me!

i love it all.
and you are the best, alicia.
both parties equally awesome.

so funny to see it play out side by side like that! (and which cake did you have for breakfast!?)

Lovely photos. I have girls so enjoyed reading your post, it made me smile.

You need a nap, Mama!! My Henry & Kate are 6 days apart- I'm sure this will be me in a few more years. : )

so fun! looks like two wonderful parties! girls being girls and boys being boys and of course mom being tired! :)

I love this! Girls v. Boys - like night and day.

Had a conversation about this with my 16 year old. She teaches gymnastics to toddlers and she's made observations about the differences between boys and girls. As she says "gentle and aggressive."

Both parties sound great! You guys definitely deserve some down time. Great pics.

everything looks lovely, especially the baseball cake! matthew is into nerf guns too :)

As a mom of both a boy and a girl, I can attest to the fact that they DO like to celebrate (and do many things) differently. It's fun, though, isn't it, to have the variety? Both parties look so fun.
