summer in the palm of my hand

found: bird nest

berry shortcake

wasp nest

So this is my routine: I go in all nonchalantly. I pay and thank the nice photo guys. "Yes, thanks! You have a nice afternoon too." I can't open them right there, that might show that I'm anxious (which I am.) I drive about a half-mile to the first side street and pull over. Then I look through the photos slowly, one at a time, handing each one back to N if she's with me. When we're through the stack once, she gives them back and we drive on. Sometimes I'm pleased, sometimes not so much.

Today I was thrilled!

Not only did I love most of the photos, they were a little gift wrapped in a white envelope. Just as the first cool fall-like breeze blew through the open car windows, I held in my hands a stack of 36 photos that represented our entire summer. That film had been in the camera all summer long, and I've been stingy with the photos, film or digital. Camping trips, hanging out in the yard, swimming in our friends' pool, get-togethers on the patio, summer food, vacations- only a few of each- but they were all there.

Thanks, film guys. You made my day and you don't even know it.

what a nice treat, i can't wait to see more of the roll

Wow, what lovely photos. That birds nest in particular is a great find. I never shoot film anymore! Don't even have a film camera, I do miss that excitement of seeing them all one by one.

i always look at them before i leave the shop. i can't help myself. i have zero willpower. and this roll is so good so far. so so good. (i felt like that about 1/2 of my last roll. so satisfying.) when do we get to see more?

Opening that envelope is the thing I miss most about digital photography. It was always on the bench outside the shop though (no willpower)!

:)

Makes me smile...thank you indeed film guys!

all of these that you have posted so far are so full of magic and beauty. thanks for sharing your summer with us in such a great way.

now, to round up all my film and take it in (i am a little nervous at the results...).

Your photos are lovely.
I agree with Ali, I do miss the thrill of opening the photo enveloppe.
I don't miss when I used to get back nothing but blurry / head missng shots though. x.

oh, alicia! these ARE so good!

i sure hope you are feeling better!

That's so funny, I ALWAYS open my photos at the counter in the photo place, and yes this makes me super nerdy and subject to some good-natured ribbing, but the guys who work there love it! They're now a regular cast of characters in my life, and have invited me out on photo shoots a few time. I think you should share your excitement! :-)

I miss the anticipation of getting back the photos (actually, that reminds me, I have a roll of film to finish). I usually was able to wait until the car park...
