spring is springing

Flowers are blooming.
Buds are budding.
Our park is hopping.

The dog barks at the door presumably to go potty,
then is found sitting still in the grass face turned towards the sun, eyes closed.

Alfermans are hiking and chasing and pedaling,
leaving bikes and scooters and balls strewn across the yard.

Friends are calling with grills warming.
Burgers are patted out and salads are tossed
and conversations on the back patio last for hours.

Kids are playing ghost in the graveyard and capture the flag
(or capture your sister's sandal when a flag is hard to come by.)

Shoes and knees and elbows are muddy,
and showers before bed are a necessity.

Kids are going to school with highly encouraged cases of
Spring Fever.

There will be more cold days and rainy days and even some snow flurries?
But for now we taste a little warmth
And decide (again) we've never been happier that Spring has arrived.

the vqb quilt

the quilt is done.

There's just something about a quilt. Especially one you've made yourself, one that you pull out of the dryer and wrap up in while it's still warm.

This is the Virtual Quilting Bee quilt, and it's completely inspired by this amazing quilt. The back is a piece of thrifted chenille. The backing dictated the size of the quilt. It's about 4 feet x 5 feet- perfect for snuggling on the couch but too small for a bed. I wanted it simple, simple, simple. It's assembled from 12 nine-patch squares (made by the quilting bee ladies) with plain white sashing all around.

it's hard to photograph a quilt

I intended it for our bedroom, but I think it'll stay down here. I love it too much not to show it off. And on an entirely related note, I may have the quilting bug. I have something like this one in mind for J's room.

I'm not the only one smitten with the new quilt.

hello again.

pots n pans

Hello, friends! I came and said I'd be here a little more, and then I up and disappeared again! Sorry. We've been hanging out at home. I had a bad cold last week (so did Brian) that sapped all of my energy. Staying upright was a feat in itself. And now poor N has the cold but is recovering more quickly than I did. It's pretty much the first time any of us have been sick since before Thanksgiving; it's been a nice, healthy winter for us.

:: knock on wood ::

I've been working on my VQB quilt. Remember that? I know- so long ago. I was short a few squares, so I made a couple more myself and assembled the top. It's all sandwiched up and ready to quilt, but my sewing machine is acting up. Again. I'll try to limp through it and get it quilted this weekend, so I can take the machine in on Monday. While I'm hand sewing the binding next week, I plan to watch Downton Abbey. All my internet buddies are raving- gotta see what the fuss is about.

So... all I'm really saying is that I'm hoping to finish a quilt in the next few days. I'll share it soon.

Happy Weekend!
