the vqb quilt
There's just something about a quilt. Especially one you've made yourself, one that you pull out of the dryer and wrap up in while it's still warm.
This is the Virtual Quilting Bee quilt, and it's completely inspired by this amazing quilt. The back is a piece of thrifted chenille. The backing dictated the size of the quilt. It's about 4 feet x 5 feet- perfect for snuggling on the couch but too small for a bed. I wanted it simple, simple, simple. It's assembled from 12 nine-patch squares (made by the quilting bee ladies) with plain white sashing all around.
I intended it for our bedroom, but I think it'll stay down here. I love it too much not to show it off. And on an entirely related note, I may have the quilting bug. I have something like this one in mind for J's room.
I'm not the only one smitten with the new quilt.

just beautiful, Alicia. that chenille back - so snuggly - and I am especially smitten with the binding. warmer still is the fact that it was made with the loving hands of friends.
I have a similar (to jack's) quilt in mind for our bedroom in this new house - receycling some of Tim's old shirts that he didn't purge before we moved and that have not come out of a box since....

Alicia we're quilting soulmates. The simpler the quilt, the better for me. That quilt is beautiful and I can almost feel the just-from-the-dryer warmth. And that pinterest quilt is so stunning in its simplicity. Now go make it : D

This is so, so great! I love the chenille backing and the colors, and all the white. I've never made a quilt yet, but this is among the most inspiring I've seen yet. Love the simplicity!

any details about how you quilted it? i'm getting close to needing to do that to mine and i'm both ignorant and terrified.

it's wonderful!
I love that the white gives it a modern feel, but the flowery squares make it rustic and old feeling.
such a good combination.

It's beautiful. I love quilts like that. I probably wouldn't be letting anyone use it, mind - I'd be on stain-watch 24 /7...
