if you're a parent, you should see this movie
It's called Race to Nowhere. It's sad and intense, and yes, hopeful and SO worth your time. Check into a screening in your area. Our pta just sponsored a viewing of it, and although I already think about this stuff, it has changed how we discuss grades and homework. Thankfully, I think we're in a district that is realistic about homework amounts. We're heading into J's "busy season," when baseball and soccer overlap. He works pretty hard this time of year, so I'm going to try to make sure he has plenty of down time too.
It's got me thinking (again) about the true meanings of success and happiness, which is always good thing.

I'm not a parent but I think unstructured time is so good for kids, to help with their problem solving skills for one thing. You're such a good mom. :)

Thanks so much for sharing. There is the same situation here in Australia. As a parent, it is really worrying.
